Jeffery Mills charged with murder after Andrew Jenkins shot dead in Cambridge Crescent, Maidstone

A man has been charged with murder after a shooting in a residential street.

Emergency services were called to Cambridge Crescent in Shepway, Maidstone, at 10.45am on Sunday, where 54-year-old Andrew Jenkins, from Rochester, was declared dead after suffering a gunshot wound.

Police, who remained at the scene throughout yesterday, recovered a firearm at the scene and arrested Jeffery Mills, 54, who was known to the victim.

He has since been charged with murder, possession of ammunition without a firearms licence and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.

He will appear at Medway Magistrates Court later today and has been remanded in custody.

Neighbours spoke of their shock and how they tried to save Mr Jenkins' life before paramedics and air ambulance crews arrived, but he was declared dead shortly after.

A forensic tent was still in place outside the Winchester House block yesterday afternoon and officers in at least three police cars were still on patrol.

Mr Jenkins' death is the third alleged murder in Maidstone in less than three months, following the killings of 19-year-old Parwin Quriashi on Christmas Day and Wesley Adyinka on February 10.
