A fashion designer wants to unite designers from across Medway for its first ever fashion week.
Eddy Eguaoje came to Medway from Nigeria four years ago and has showcased his work on catwalks across the country.
During his travels, he was inspired to get fashion designers together for a project never before seen in the Towns.
The 31-year-old, of Trafalgar Avenue, Gillingham, said: “I just wanted to create a fashion show where designers, like myself, and fashion students can showcase their work.
“Every year, I go up to London and sometimes I see designers from Gillingham and Chatham and I think, ‘why do we have to wait to come up here when I can do something myself to showcase designers in Medway and show people this is what we do?’”
Eddy learned his craft while completing an apprenticeship and then a diploma in fashion back in Nigeria. He describes his collection of womenswear and menswear, called Lasste by Edi, as a blend of African and British styles.
He wants to get students from the University of the Creative Arts – which has a campus in Fort Pitt, Rochester – and MidKent College to get involved with the event, which will be held at Brompton Academy, Malborough Road, Gillingham, on Saturday, February 22, at 6pm.
He said: “We will have hair stylists and make-up artist students to take care of that aspect as it’s an experience for them to see what it feels like to do something like that for real, not just in the classroom.”
If you are a designer who would like to get involved, go to the website and fill out the contact form.
Tickets cost £10 (without online booking fees) and can be purchased here.
